PA30 Landing gear switch guard

Postby Larry Martin » Sun Dec 18, 2016 11:47 pm

23210·02 GUARD ASSEMBLY· landing gear switch

Ref: Above switch/guard....

My switch has the guard at the bottom, which makes it seem to me that it would prevent the gear from being selected DOWN. This is also how I see it in the parts manual. My logic would want a guard to prevent the gear from being inadvertently selected UP.
Can anyone enlighten me please........

Thanks,
larry

I have been enlightened on this guard - by my son no less!

Though it is not intuitive, with the guard there, you can not accidentally bump the gear switch up. You must be purposeful in pulling the switch out in order to raise it to the up position. Without the guard, you could bump it up.

I always bring this up whenever the "guard" question resurfaces. Always use one finger to retract the flaps after landing. You can't pull the gear up with one finger. You can put it down with one, but not up. The guard keeps anything from getting behind the knob and inadvertently pulling it out.

Zach, The one finger flap advice is an excellent tip. I had not thought of it. Thanks.
