PA-30 ROCKER SWITCHES CROSS REFERENCE

Postby Frank Brunot » Sat Jan 31, 2015 9:42 pm

Does anyone know a manufacturer and model number for rocker switches that would cross reference to the original Piper #32370-xx units in a 1969 PA-30C?

Had a couple crack, the labels are just about gone, and looks like it's time to replace.

I've previously heard those are hard to find. I don't have the answer but I'd start by calling Webco and see if they have them or a suitable substitute. Perhaps you can buy blanks from Spruce (without labeling) and have them engraved then fill the engraving with black paint or crayon? I've seen plastic done that way before. Not ideal but you could perhaps put labels on them from a label maker.

Good Luck,

I'll be following this thread as we don't need them immediately but the Twin's could use replacing too.

Well, I ran across an article in the Dec 2014 issue of Piper Flyer magazine titled: "Restoration on a Budget: Senaca Power Control Panel Upgrade". Part of the project was replacing all the rocker switches. The mounting of the Senaca switches are slightly different than the Twinco. They use mounting tabs held by screws, whereas ours are a plastic snap in.

Anyway, the switches were obtained from a company called Chaparral Parts. Their new website is www.chaparralparts.aero, and their phone is 866-865-1262. I went to their site, and the switches range from $46 up to $79. Too rich for my blood.

I think a better way is to change to bat handle toggle switches (in the $15 range, from Aircraft Spruce), and mount them in their own panel to the left of the pilot control yoke. Labels can be put right on the panel, and everything is right up there where it can be seen. No more feeling around by your knees for the right switch.

Were those Seneca switches internally lit like the Piper ones on the later Comanches?

Yes, the switches are illuminated.
