I am a reasonably new PA39 owner and my aircraft is in need (not urgent) of an Avionics upgrade. My distant view (from Australia) seems to indicate that Dynon is making real headway into the certified avionics market for certified aircraft having recently received STC approval for a Skyview HDX installation in a C172 (and perhaps other types as well). I am wondering if any fellow PA30/39 owners closer to the source have any information on the future availability of Dynon Skyview or similar avionics suites for our aircraft? Ossie Miller. VH-LLL. Hi Ossie , I have been closely following Dynon for their stc approval as well. I have a 1960 180 that needs a panel upgrade badly. Unfortunately, Dynon hasn’t really got their stuff together, Last year about July I talked to them and they said they were very close to the C172 STC and then the Baron would be right behind it, the salesman thought that they would do a piper soon after that and I should hear something by Oct….well it took until Apr and Sun n Fun this year and they just got the C172 STC. I think also that if they do a piper it will be a PA 28 1st cause it’s more prevalents, but who knows. I went to Dynon website and filled out their contact form, so the more people that do that the better chance of them doing a Comanche earlier. I am not going to hold my breath though…seems like it’s going to be several years at best for us, so I am going to pull the trigger and upgrade now. It badly needs it, I am using a ForeFlight for vfr stuff, as the old instruments don’t work and I don’t want to throw good money after bad.

I am thinking 2 G 5s, a GPS 430w or better, new panel, tpdr for adsb, audio phl, and a backup nav loc indicator. My budget is 30 to 40 k.

I would love to get an autopilot and engine system monitoring like edm 900, but that is outta my budget. If only Dynon was quicker, I could get all that plus for 20 k plus labor.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Don,

Thanks for the reply and sorry for my slow response. It is a shame the move into the modern world is taking so long! The latest avionics are a tremendous enhancement to safety. I am sure there is a strong safety related argument to permit certain non STC avionics to be fitted to certified aircraft ie. Garmin G3 equipment for starters. I know of many owners who are desperate to upgrade their panels however, the cost of fitting certified avionics is prohibitive in our older airframes. I hope the ICS is active in lobbying the appropriate authorities and bureaucrats for change.

    Regards

    Ossie

I received an email update yesterday from Dynon. They have just released the latest list of aircraft approvals and projected approvals. The Seneca is listed for late 2018. Getting closer! Ossie Miller
