Com antenna on belly

Postby Warren Janzen » Wed Apr 08, 2015 4:02 am

I have a new com antenna I'd like to mount to a 180. I have one good com antenna on the top behind the battery area. The bent one is coming off. I understand an antenna on the underside would help communications if up high. The comanche sits quite low. Any recommendations to where to install it? I have a Comant CI-122. (Bent whip style). Currently the two antennas are about 16" apart.

The easiest place would be below the battery but ground clearance is minimal. An alternative would be below the passenger seats between the conduit cables. That would be in line with the main gear.

Any suggestions or photos?

Thanks Warren

Hi Warren,

On my -180 I placed a bent whip antenna for Comm 2 on the underside between the seats. From memory I reused a redundant hole in that location.

Works well; but like everything make sure your grounding is perfect.

Cheers,

James.
