Anyone have any information on how to connect an ADSB unit to the Comanche squat switch? Thanks for any help. Harry

    Harris,

If you are in the US, I advise you read AIM 4-1-20, paragraph 3., which advises to operate the TXPDR/ADS-B in Altitude reporting mode anytime the aircraft is in an airport movement area. Paragraphs 3.a and 3.b further advises selecting TXDR mode which allows Altitude reporting from taxi out of your parking spot to taxi into parking spot.

Gone are the days of turning off the TXPDR on the ground.

    Thanks Michael,
What I am referring to is this paragraph in the ADSB installation manual.
    6.6.5 Squat Switch Input
The Squat switch input allows the transponder to automatically switch between Airborne and Ground
ADS-B out compliant installations must have a method of automatically determining the Air-ground status of the aircraft. The AXP340 transponder can use any one of the following sources to supply a signal to pin 5 of the primary connector:
    • Aircraft Squat (weight on wheels) Switch
    • Airspeed Switch
    • Pseudo Weight-on-Wheels output (e.g. GPS derived output such as Avidyne IFD5XX/IFD4XX P1001 Pin 8 or Entegra Release 9 outputs)
    • Auto-switch on Airdata GPS (e.g. ADC serial input with altitude and airspeed such as Shadin ADC formats, pin 5 is left open, see sec 6.5.4)
    • Collective switch for Part 27/29 aircraft (Note: additional approval required)

As I understand, the transponder can be “on” but still report a “ground” or “airborne” status.

    Harry
