I’m in need of a top overhaul, My cylinders are old channel chrome and worn out. Is there a preference on which cylinders to buy? They all seem to be similar in price. Lycoming is a little more than Millennium but the lycoming comes with the piston pin, Millennuim does not come with pins. Thanks in advance, Chris

When I recently (2017) had my major overhaul, the overhaul shop recommended I use Lycoming. I followed their recommendation. So far I only have 40 hrs on the engine, so it’s probably too early to make a reasonable assessment.

Thank you for the reply. I talked to a few engine shops and a few people at my local airport who have Lycoming engines. Everyone recomended to get the factory Lycoming cylinder kits. I ordered them from Air Power in Texas, They had the best price. One engine shop even recomended I purchase them from Air Power and not from them.

Keep an eye on the weight of the pistons. If you are replacing a single cylinder you need to be aware of how much the opposing piston weighs. There is a limit for how much those can be different. Lycoming does change the mass of those from time to time (usually down).

I have six cylinder kits on order. I’ll check the weights just to be safe. Thanks for the tip
