Stuck bendix
After landing on a recent flight I noted a squealing sound coming from the engine at low RPM. I shut down the engine and pulled the prop through to see if I could reproduce it. I found that the Bendix was stuck in the out position. I figured my starter was shot after a one and a half hour flight but gave it a try anyway. Seemed to work fine and the squeeling noise was gone. Tried it again today and seems to work fine. Should I replace the starter, lube the Bendix, or just wait-and-see? Thanks, Rick

Re: Stuck bendix
Replace it. At least have it removed and the Bendix taken apart, cleaned and lubricated. Do not use an oil based product for the lubricant in the Bendix, I have had good results with spray silicon lube.
