Prop shaft seals

Postby justin hawkins » Thu Jun 25, 2015 6:05 pm

After removing and reinstalling my props for an Alternator conversion, I have a slight oil seepage on the left engine that I believe to be coming from the prop o ring. The ones that go on the prop and seal the inside of the prop shaft.

Does anyone have a source and / or part number for these?

Thanks,

Justin Hawkins

Justin, what kind of engine / aircraft? If the props are removed and reinstalled those seals should be replaced not reused. I did replaced my prop o-rings when I did the Plane Power alternator conversion on my 1968 PA-30B as the props came off for new alternator belts. According to the PA-30 IPC the O-Ring part number is:

Piper P/N: 755 800

There is also a reference to another part number in the description and that is:

Alternate P/N: PRP-909-6

I would call a local 145 repair station, they probably have them in stock. Any local repair station should have access to data and be able to pull up the P/N for your engine and cross-reference it to any alternate part numbers.

In that case I think the seals I referenced are what you need. Should be the same Hartzel props and Lycoming IO320 B1A engines I have. I didn't see any alternate part numbers by aircraft serial number in the IPC...
