PA30 alternate air cable

Postby Larry Martin » Mon Aug 15, 2016 4:18 pm

Like many, (so I'm told) my alternate air cables 17969-09 are rather stiff. (understatement)
Can the inner cable be removed from the outer housing and cleaned, inspect and slid back in, or is replacement the only option?

Thanks,
larry

Larry,

Can't answer your question but can tell you I got cables for this from McFarlane. Be sure to check alt air door operation and proper 1/8 in adjustment. It is a common failure area on Twins and results in bad things happening.

Larry,

It could be done, you would have to straighten the engine end of the wire in order to remove it. Once pulled back about 4" be sure to catch the small steel ball from the cable. They can be lost easily, I know.

Thanks Clareance,

Any problem with cable break when bending it again?

Larry,

You can normally get away with it a few times. If the end does break, there is usually a little slack in the nacelle which you can gain.
