fuel primer

Postby Todd Skalsky » Mon Feb 06, 2012 4:33 am

Hi all,

I am having a problem with the fuel primer in my 63 comanche 250. I normally turn the fuel pump on and prime 6 times and the engine starts right up. Latley I may have to prime it 15 or twenty times and still the engine doesn't start easy. Any suggestions.

Thanks

First, the primer is pretty simple. It is a glorified syringe sucking in fuel from the selector, and squirting it in 5 of the 6 cyl intake galleries through primer nozzles (the other cyl uses the primer port as the manifold pressure pick off). Many times these get plugged up, and they never get cleaned, unlike fuel injectors. Remove the nozzles, and soak them overnight in some Hoppies gun cleaner, blow them out, and reinstall. It should work good as new!
