I am about to purchase a JPI EDM 790 with fuel flow for my Twin Comanche. The order form requires the fuel flow fitting size with the choices being 4, 6, or 7. Which one is it? Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello Wayne,

Where does the JPI transducer fit? I presume in the line between the Fuel Control unit and the fuel divider. Can you confirm? That will determine the size.

    Alan,

    That’s what I’ve been told.

Here is what the JPI manual says:

Purchase two new hoses, one from the Fuel Servo to the Fuel Flow Transducer and the other from the Fuel Flow Transducer to the Flow Divider.

    Hello Wayne,

I wasn’t able to be sure about the size, so I contacted one of the ICS Technical Committee, Pat Barry.

Here’s his reply. I know he doesn’t directly answer your question but he raises a point you may not have been aware of.

JPI has all the info in its STC, or will answer a simple question, so you should be able to find out from them.

However, just ensure that he is aware that the JPI 700 series (including the 790) is not a primary system, so he will have the aggravation of having to maintain his existing gauges.

I’ve been installing the G4 from Insight over the past number of years. I used to do JPI (they are just up the road from me and I was one of their dealer / installers for years, but they used to tell me that the 760 was primary, and then they said “read the small print in the STC”. “It’s advisory”. They sell a premium priced 960 for about $14,000 or so which is approved as a primary unit, but the Insight unit is about US$5500 and is capable of many functions, like the JPI 960, but is less in price.

If you decide on the G4 Pat is happy to help you with the order if you needed help.

Thanks for your help Alan. I finally got the answer – 4. I called Precision Hose Technology. They knew the answer.

I’ll take a look at the G4. Sounds interesting.

    Hi Wayne,

I’m pleased you got your answer.

I had a quick look at both the JPI 790 and the G4. The 790 is bigger and looks like it has a better presentation than the G4, but not being a primary display certainly is a point I would think about if I were putting it in our PA30.
