Just put electronic ignition on my ’66 PA-30 during my November 2018 annual. Still feeling it out but I am super happy with the perceived benefits. Starts quickly and easily both cold and hot. The spark it puts out is supposedly 30% hotter and 3 times longer. I have fine wire plugs and they had to be gapped much wider to handle the higher voltage and bigger spark. When doing mag checks I don’t have any drop in RPM when you turn off the remaining mag. It automatically adjusts the timing when climbing so it is much more efficient at altitude. I also added GAMI’s and also happy with them. Much more level EGT’s and experimenting with Lean OF Peak now. Anyone else add either of these items? Would love to here how you like it.

I had though about the GAMI’s but never got around to them. I can see the benefits of the electronic ignition for starting however with the SkyTec starters I have never had any issues starting, hot or cold.

The ongoing benefits, maintenance costs will be interesting.

Hello Ken -

Hoping to get an update as I am considering an upgrade for my 260.
I assume you have the ElectroAir unit, please confirm.

What other benefits/issues/concerns have you noticed since switching to EI ?
What would you do differently?

Best,
