Dual exhaust vs. repair for 180

Postby bishopw » Sat Dec 11, 2010 12:16 am

Hi-
My muffler is cracked, and this is the 3rd time in 5 years that I have had a muffler issue. I'm ready to look at alternatives. I understand that the dual exhuast from Aviation Performance Products has some advantages. Can anyone comment?

Hi Warren,

I have a 260B which came with the dual exhaust from piper. The APP exhaust is a similar set up. We fly out West and down in Mexico where it can be hot. I have ridden in a 250 with the stock single exhaust and the heat off the firewall is nearly unbearable. I know there is more clearance between the exhaust and the firewall in the 180 but if heat off the firewall is an issue, the dual exhaust is the cure. My system has been very reliable. Wore the mufflers out after 10-12 yrs, otherwise no problems.Sounds good too.

Good luck, Don

Warren:

I put the dual exhaust on my 180 a couple of years ago. It is well worth the money. It cut the heat in the cabin on hot summer days and it also gets rid of the AD on the muffler. I would really consider it. Robert Flanagan
