Good morning all,

Our shop is working on a PA24-180. On initial runup for Annual Inspection, the Carb Heat drop was 400 RPM. I've not operated any other GA airplane with that large a drop. I was trying to research it & found a flight sim forum where one poster said that Comanches have hefty RPM drops when using a carb heat. I'm not betting my Inspection Authorization on that testimony, so what say ya'll?

I have just purchased a 1960 PA-24-250 and the carb heat drop is very high for it as well. MY guess is that the heat of the exhaust is a lot more substantial compared to other GA airplanes. If you follow the path of air intake it goes from the rear baffling after all the cylinders and then around the carb heat shroud. I.E. there is a lot of heat being picked up to contribute to high drop. Any one else could comment on this as well...
