Alternator Belt
At what interval would it be prudent to change our alternator belt on a 61 250. It's been about 8 years.
Thanks
Andrew

Re: Alternator Belt
I'd say any time it fails, or the prop is already off.

Re: Alternator Belt
I would also add it is time to change anytime it is obviously compromised, shows cracking, or has excessive wear. In the case of excessive wear, it is a good idea to find out why as well. It can be a good indication of other problems such as bad bearings in the generator/alternator, or a misaligned or broken bracket. Short of these, and what Don said, there is no change interval that needs to be followed.

Re: Alternator Belt
When you do change it, suggest you go to Nat'l Air Parts of America (NAPA) to get the replacement.
Good luck, Don

Re: Alternator Belt
Don't go to NAPA, go get a good "Gates Green stripe" or you will be removing the prop for a belt change way before you should have to.....I went through this when I went to a 3 blade & was trying to find the "proper" belt which doesn't exist anymore. The original part number will cross to a Gates number so it is legal, however I found that the "heavy belt" will not quite fit. When it comes to belts & hoses...buy cheap, buy often.....

Re: Alternator Belt
Gates is indeed the one you want. Guess I assumed you get that at napa.
Good luck, Don
