Alternate Air Cable - engine
Part two of the question. I don't have time to properly deal with the stuck cable on both alternative airboxes. (annaul done in May - really
) The spring loaded door works fine. Is it a big deal not to be able to select alternate air? Has anyone been in a situation where they had to pull them open? I will fix them, but would prefer to wait until next month, as we have a trip planned that coul be in jepority.

thanks,

Re: Alternate Air Cable - engine
These cables can freeze from lack of regular use. Mine did because I didn't exercise it enough. Most serious aviation parts suppliers have them. It was replaced during an annual inspection.

Re: Alternate Air Cable - engine
In my opinion if you need to use the manual alternate air controls you will have had much bigger issues before that. So much so that operating the manual system is probably not even something you'd be caring about at that stage.
I'd recommend having fixed but I'd not be too worried about the consequences of them not working, especially if they still operate automatically. Some aircraft I've flown only have automatic doors.

Thanks, I share that opinion.
I did repair them, but it is still too stiff.

Re: Alternate Air Cable - engine
I have never had to use the alternate air cable in flight l. During my takeoff check list, I would put my hand on the control but not actually pull it. I now always pull it just to make sure that the cable is regularly exercised during the year not just at annual. But I don't really know that the control is actually working just because the cable moves.
