My PA30 has badly sun-rotted trim cloth on the top side of the panel. I have seen a couple of planes where this has been remedied by the addition of a plastic cover which appears to cover the whole top-side right up to the windshield. Does anyone know where I can buy one of these from?
Knots 2 U has some good interior stuff.

I'd give webco a call first though.

The glare shield that you are referring to is an "Ashby Glare Shield". The are available thru Aircraft Spruce. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/piper24glare.php
I personally do not like them as it is very easy to scratch the windshield and side interior panels during installation and removal. Twin Oaks Aircraft located in Hillsborough OR has a much better solution and I had it installed during a major panel upgrade that was performed at their facility.
All the best!

Hi Ken,
Check out the August 2012 Comanche Flyer magazine article I wrote called Two-Piece Glare Shield Installation. It is in the magazine archives on the ICS website. I used the Ashby glareshield but trimmed it down somewhat and essentially turned it into a newer version of the original Piper two-piece glareshield. I re-used the small louvered vent in front of the glareshield and I used the metal clips from the old glareshield to attach the new top. It is easily removable. The way I did it, I made use of the good characteristics of the Ashby shield and did away with any negatives. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Dave. I read your excellent article. I am nervous about removing the single-piece windshield in case it cracks or breaks up, but that fabric-covered strip under it is very difficult to access without doing so. I am not so worried about glare - my PA30C already has an overhang of a couple of inches above the instruments so no problem with night flying. The removable top is aluminum so can easily be re painted. it is just the fabric-covered strip at the front that has deteriorated so badly that the padding material is sticking out. If someone had a cutting template it would be a great help. That way I could cut some black, flexible material and slide it and glue it in to position without removing the windshield.
