Hello, everyone. I’m new to Comanches and looking at purchasing a ‘62 250 but I like the open baggage design of the 260. Has anyone done this conversion or is there an STC? Is it possible to install the 5th and 6th seats with 337 or STC in the 250s?

Thanks

Rusty, the answer would take a few pages.

Bottom line - if you want the 5th and 6th seats, I suggest that you consider buying a 260.

I assume that you have little kids -- if you don't then you might reconsider the kiddie seats. You are limited to 250 lbs back there anyway. As for engineering, the 5th and 6th seat positions have a shallow footwell for the kids to place their feet in. Most owners remove the kiddie seats since your insurer will charge you for six seats, versus the four adult sized seats.

But, to answer your question - can a 250 fuselage be modified to have six seats? Yes, but the costs will be so great that you will find it cheaper to simply buy a plane that has the configuration that you prefer. There is no STC to do the alteration because the engineering is already done for you in the 260. The fuselage is the same. But contemplate the $$$. Is this what you really want?

Can you elaborate about your family size and your trip mission needs? You might leave a phone # as well.

@patricbarry

Thank you. I really am only looking for the split rear set design and open baggage. The extra seats only would have been a bonus. I have one child and no plans for more, so the extra seats are truly not necessary.

Would this then just be a a matter of finding two rear seats out of a B or C model and modifying the headliner? Approved through 337?
