PA-30 Nose Gear Taxi Light

Postby David Pfeffer » Wed Mar 13, 2013 1:27 pm

Anyone have a nose gear landing light on their PA-30? I know Knots2u has an STC for it, but they're lacking in their picture department. Anyone have detailed pictures of the install they're willing to share? I'd like to see how it attaches to the gear.

Thanks!
David

Dave, I don't have any pictures, but the install is very straight forward. That being said there have been some
complaints with the fit and that you have to persuade the parts to install.
The only negative thing I have is that the light covers the red turn limit marks. Meaning even more vigilance with the line guys at other airports.

David... send me your email address.... I'm at jim dot covington at inwave dot com.

I installed the Knots nose gear landing light... and have a few pics. I did have to modify (mine has the LED light bulb) with a dremel. There were some other bends etc that had to be accommodated. Also, if one of the brackets is incorrectly mounted upside down, it is impossible to mount and the bracket is not clearly identified. I flew back to Knots (they are 30 miles from me) ... and they helped me figure it out... some of the fastners that were originally supplied were too short too.

Now that I've spent about 4 hours installing it.. I like it.

Any one else like photos... please respond to the above.

All the best!
Jim

David: John Rabourn and I recently bought a PA30 for parts (without engines) The airplane has the Knots 2U nose gear landing light with the expensive LED bulb. Neither of us fly much at night so we are offering it at $500 plus freight. My phone is 206 283 9996, John's is 206 601 7027. emails are ahpowers@aol.com and jrgrabourn@comcast.net

David--

Several years ago (after almost running my PA39 off a taxiway on a dark, rainy night), I hired a Designated Engineering Representative to design a nose gear mounted taxi light for me based on one designed by Hans Neubert. Attached is a photoa of my installation just after approval (via a 337). I have since swapped the incandescent lamp for a Whelen Parmetheus PLED2T LED taxi lamp. The Knots 2 U version is MUCH less expensive than what I paid. If it had been available, I would have bought one in a heartbeat.

P.S. Get the Parmetheus lamp.

There is one thing I like about your and Han's lamp above the Kts 2 U (Miller) lamp. Your bulbs are mounted like a Seneca's-- on the side. The DO NOT TURN PAST MARKINGS are clearly visible.

All the best!

Dave's paint is so shinny it looks like a double light. Nice work. Since my original install, I have put in a wide beam HID. With 5 HID bulbs lit, they really light up the place.

I bought my Miller nose light for my PA-39 from a guy with a PA-24-400 who couldn't make it fit. I think Knots2U bought the Miller design (not positive). I took the attached photos of a PA-30 with the taxi light to help us install mine, which went OK but with a little tweaking as noted. It is MUCH more useful than the wingtip lights.
