LED Landing light bulbs

Postby 15384 » Mon Feb 16, 2009 7:03 pm

www.aeroLEDs.com Anyone looking for a direct drop in replacement for their GE4509 landing light bulbs and want more light? This is an option. Pricey but in the ball park as some other alternatives. Web site claims $495.95 for 1 and nothing about a pair. Advertisement in an aviation magazine states $585.95 for 1 and $995.95 for a pair.

LED Landing light bulbs

Postby 15384 » Tue Feb 17, 2009 2:35 am

Upon further investigation. It appears these LED's don't perform anywhere close to the HID system. A fellow gave me the heads up so head over to www.YouTube.com and do a search for Avweb LED landing lights and see a video demonstration comparison of a GE4509 stock bulb, HID and a LED.

I'd rate the LED as a bust.

If you fly much at night , the Knots 2 U high intensity lights are the way to go . They are at least twice as bright as the old GE bulbs . And are half the cost of the Boom Beam , at least they were when I put mine on a few years ago .

Landing lights

Marty: Did you see the video at Avweb? It's incredible the effectiveness of HID lamps. They are on my wish list.

I bit the bullet earlier this year and installed the Knots 2U HID lights. WOW! I'm glad I did. (See my earlier post on this subject.)

Have the HID's on my 182 and I love 'em. I leave them on all the time as they help you be seen even in daytime. I fly around L.A. a lot and anything that helps me be seen is a good thing. On a weekend in the L.A. basin you best have your head on a swivel. Intense G.A. activity combined with IFR arrivals and departures make it a very interesting place to fly VFR.
