Engine replacement stc to raise hp to 260 from 250

Postby Steve Kravitz » Tue Oct 18, 2016 6:00 pm

I have a 1959 PA24 with the A1A5 engine. I am going to replace it with a factory rebuilt (0 time) engine. I have heard there is an STC that will raise the hp from 250 to 260 but cannot find it.
Does anyone have any information on this STC.

I am also looking to replace the prop (3 blade McCauley) with an MT composite due to a prop strike. I would appreciate any input on that subject.
I have been told prop is lighter and gives better performance.

Thank you

Johnson Aircraft Service owns that STC. 559-686-1794. www.johnsonaircraft.com

Since you are getting a Lycoming engine check the possibility of putting a 260 on the airframe. Your AI should be able to check that out.

Hi, my name Is Ruy from Argentina, I had the same question 1 year ago and the option was I had to buy a kit in Hartzel with 3 blade and put same counterweight in the crankshaft and at that moment I just finishes the engine overhlold, so I dint do that. I put 3 blade MT prop and it works very very well!!!! I dint loose any speed instead I gain 1 o 2 knots but the that change was climbing, and vibration!!!!!! With 2 blade I hade same vibration that I couldn't clear, but with de MT that was AMAZING!!! And the old governor I works because my plane is 1960 and doing same change my mechanic could use it. That is my experience!! take in account that MT 3 blade has the same weight that old hartzell 2 blade!
