Undercarriage switch

Postby Tidders » Mon Apr 10, 2017 6:20 pm

We had a recent problem with the undercarriage on our 1959 Comanche 250 (N84VK) where it appeared that the wheels were fully retracted (visible in the wing tip mirror) but the circuit breaker kept popping due to a significant load being placed on the motor (spiking at 40 amps).

This was traced to a worn bearing which has now been sorted.

The question I would like some advice on is that the u/c switch has three positions - Up, Off (middle position), Down.

Up until now we have taken off moved the switch to the Up position and left it that position in flight until we want to lower the gear. Would it be good practice to move to the Off middle position once the gear up light comes on?

Welcome your comments and experience.

Regards

I always leave the switch in the up position in flight. I never use the off (center) position unless doing maintenance on the gear.
