Gear retraction - no gear up light

Postby Todd Hensley » Tue Jan 15, 2013 3:06 am

Just finished replacing my gear switches, left, right, safety, and nose. Adjusted everything as required. Everything works correctly, except I don't get a gear up light at the top of the retraction. It also sounds as if the motor isn't cutting off soon enough. Normally, I would suspect the gear up limit switch, but that wasn't changed or altered in any way. Any thoughts before I dig into that?

Todd,

Shop just replaced the up limit switch in my twin as the old one was occasionally balky when the twin was on jacks. They put it in exactly the same place but the condition you just described happened. They adjusted the switch and all works well again. Not saying this is your problem but it sure sounds like a close cousin.

Of course, balky conduits can happen too. It would be great to hear how you solve the problem.

So the final solution was to simply charge the battery! After cycling the gear numerous times, it just didn't have enough amps to give the gear that final little bit of movement. I discovered this after removing the seats, carpet, gear motor access cover, confirming the up limit switch operation, and disconnecting the gear doors to confirm that everything was fully retracted. I adjusted the switch slightly until the up light lit, then cycled the gear a few more times. That's when I realized the battery was seriously weakening. Charged it and returned the switch to its original position and all was well. Atleast until I reconnected the gear door pull rods on the wrong side of the brackets and promptly snapped top rod ends. I'm really disgusted with myself, but the gear works great and the harness kit from Comanche Gear was excellent! Now to order some new rod ends.........

Todd,

Thanks for sharing. At least it is under your control.
