Gear light problem

Postby Gerald Kraemer » Tue Dec 20, 2016 4:20 pm

Fairly new to Comanche ownership. Intermittent not getting green gear light. Cycle the Nav light switch on / off and will get good green. Happening more common now. My mechanic is getting ready to start looking at it, but wondering if any ideas where to direct him to start first. Thanks

It sounds like the classic symptoms of the nose gear microswitch going bad. Call Matt Kurke and ComancheGear. He is the landing gear guru, but if you have original wiring out to the landing gear, I recommend you buy a kit he has with all the switches and new wiring. It comes with an excellent instruction guide. Most original wiring is cracked and the microswitches which are out in the weather, start to give trouble at some point. They can lead to all sorts of issues including the collapse of the landing gear. Best to just do it and forget about it. If one knows what they are doing and has done before, it takes about six or so hours to install.

I had similar issues, along with intermittent loooooong pauses between selecting Gear Down and the gear starting to go down when I bought my Comanche 6 years ago. Installed Matt's kit for new gear harnesses/switches and later his kit for push-to-test gear indicator and stall lights - well worth the investment.
