Last September I had one of the notorious cracks in the RH strut housing on my 260B. So... recent experience.

One option for repair was the Australian housing. Pricey.

I was put in touch with Kim at K&K precision welding in East Troy, WI. He was just completing FAA approval on his weld repair for the strut housings. I removed mine and sent it to him just before Thanksgiving. Three weeks later I had a like-new strut housing by return mail. Total price was a couple of thousand dollars. The repair is not like the old S&B which added material to capture the crack rather than repair. This new procedure is a full weld repair, heat treatment, polish the barrel (Mine had cracked through and was leaking nitrogen and fluid) and an X-Ray inspection. It looks like a new part.

It is really nice to have another path for repair of these.

They are at https://www.precision-welding.com/

No interest in K&K other than being an early and satisfied customer. They were very responsive and a pleasure to work with.

Kim is wonderful.

Just so everyone understands, his procedure is different from the old S and B procedure in that Kim observed that the S and B procedure used heat welding which affected the trunnion structure so he uses laser welding which is better.

His cost for the procedure is $2,000.
