Changing Tires

I have a PA24-250 with cleveland wheels. Just read the piper service manual on the subject. Left me with one question. Where do I find the torque for the thru bolts? It say specifications given on wheel.

Hi William,

Search Cleveland wheel and brake maintenance manual. In the back there is a section stating required torque values for all wheel. You need to know your wheel part number which is in the Cleveland product manual.

I have a PA-24/250 and I believe the torque for the wheel halves are 150in lbs. Don't know where I found that spec but did write it down last time i had my wheels apart.

Be careful!!! Nose and main wheels are not necessarily the same values. I just went thru this. I'll look thru my stuff and see what I can find but Matt Kurke has the Cleveland manuals on his website ( http://www.comanchegear.com ) and you need to torque according to the part number of the wheel. On my PA-30 there was a lower torque for the nose wheel bolts than the main wheel bolts.

Make sure you use the torque for your wheel by part number...

The Cleveland 40-58 wheels on my aircraft call for a torque of 90inch pounds dry. It really doesn't seem like enough, but I will follow the specs.

Mine were 90inlb too. They've been on nearly 3 weeks so far so good. The new tires on and balanced. The dual arm fork is a pain. I would consider the single arm just for changing tires.
