Brake rotors on 180

Postby Warren Janzen » Wed Jul 02, 2014 3:23 am

Hello, I'm a new owner of a Comanche 180. Brake rotors are quite worn and flutter bad when I touch down. The disc rotors are riveted to the back of the wheel. My mechanic suggested new Cleveland wheels, discs, and calipers. what options do I have and how can I identify a cross reference for compatibility? It seems that 180 wheels are not compatible with 250s.

Hi Warren,

Just had these done on 1959 250. I purchased old style replacement discs, (the same type you have that are riveted on to the wheel) from Webco in Feb 2014 for $1048 for a pair. You can purchase the new Cleveland kit that your mechanic is referencing from Webco as well but it is quite pricey (a little north of $2500) if I recall correctly. I believe the kit includes later style discs, new wheels, calipers, etc. In my case, all other brake components were in serviceable condition so spending more than twice as much did not seem like a good deal to me. Heritage Aero in RFD did the install during the annual inspection in April 2014.

Good Luck,

Ed
