AD for Stud, gear, main brace, side
I just got a 59 PA-24. Doing the annual inspection on the landing gear AD we found cracks in the gear, main brace side studs. the studs have a .5" shaft.
being new to the Comanche, I am wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of the best fix for this problem. The AD states that replacement with the 78717-002 stud, which is 5/8"
on the shank, gets rid of the AD.
Question: Can the original Brackets that came with the 180 be used in conjunction with the bushing PN # 67026-12 for the thicker Stud 78717-002?

is there a better way?
Thank you so much,

Kent,
I've never heard of putting th thicker studs in earlier models. A call to Webco or Matt Kurke will get you an answer.

There is no terminating action for the PA-24 series. If you re-read the AD, you will see that the terminating action is only for the PA-28 and PA-32 series aircraft. There is also no approved data for installing the larger studs from the PA-30 into the PA-24 and it wouldn't matter anyway as it would not affect the requirements of the AD.
