Extending alternator life

Postby Mike Dunlop » Sun Sep 11, 2016 11:58 pm

I came across this article and found it enlightening. It's opposite how I've been operating my alternators on my Twinco. I thought I would share.

Hi Mike, I just happened to speak with John at AeroTech of Louisville yesterday. He recommended having the bearings and brushes changed every 300 hours (he said that is every other annual for him). He said an InterAv alternator will last a long time if this is done. I plan to have this done to my InterAv alternators in November. I think they have about 1200 hrs on them, so it is definitely time by his advice. You can still buy brushes from Quality Aircraft Accesories, the holder of the InterAv STC. I think the bearings are stock sealed ball bearings on both ends.
Clear Skies,
