Hey everyone!
I’m Guy White, just joined a couple of weeks ago as I’m starting the adventure of looking for a 180 to buy. I’m currently on deployment (US Army FW pilot) so if anyone knows of a friend looking to sell their bird and wouldn’t mind waiting a few months, please let me know.
I’d also like to pick some brains in relation to the maintenance, care and general operation. Just want to have some things down in mind of what to be aware of and what to avoid. Thank you all very much!

I'm a part of the tribe officially now!

I recently took a trip up to Fremont, NE and picked up N5130P. She is a beautiful '58 180. My hats off to all the fellas up there who took the time to show off the plane and especially to George Richmond for taking the time to teach me some extremely valuable things about the airplane. Looking forward to linking up with some Texas "Raiding Parties" in the near future.

The ICS site gives you access to some good brains and experience with maintenance.

The Comanche is an outstanding aircraft, but, at fifty years plus, there often are delinquent maintenance items that need to be addressed.

You absolutely need a maintenance manual and a parts manual, both of which can be downloaded from the ICS site at no charge. These are a guide as to what to do. In addition, in the front of the maintenance manual is a checklist and I suggest that you print this off and use it. Whenever I do an annual on a Comanche I print this and use it and provide it to the owner with the AD list which I get from AdLog. You might look into AdLog if your plane is not already on it since it is an outstanding record keeping tool, and every AD is printed out in full so you can refer to it during maintenance.

The greatest problem in the industry is not parts, not the aircraft, but the mechanics, many of whom are poorly qualified to work on the fleet, so it pays to find a mechanic that has Comanche experience. I cannot emphasize that more.

Let us know where we can assist.

Hey Pat!

Thank you for the very warm welcome and the sage advice. I've downloaded the manuals and have been going through them making some notes. I'll check out ADLog and bounce off what I have already in the AD department. As far as I'm tracking, all of my ADs are complied with but I certainly want to stay on top of my maintenance. A fella named George Richmond hooked me up with a load of info and some good contacts here in TX. I'll certainly be hitting up the forums for sure. You guys have all been great!

SCOUTS OUT!

Guy White
