Green Fuel

Postby George Kretschmann » Sun Oct 19, 2014 10:45 pm

I hate to even ask this but anyway I replaced the right fuel bladder from FFC and every time I sump the right main the first fuel sumped is green and trashy in my Gats jar. If I sump it again into the Gats jar it is clear Blue with no trash, all the other sumps from the other tanks are clear and blue. What's going on? I even spoke with the airport manager since he handles the fuel and he is not sure he thinks it was something n the fuel cell curing. I'm going to sump the right Aux tomorrow and see what color I get. Thanks George

George,

I once sumped my fuel after removing a dirt dauber nest in the hangar - even though it wasn't close to the sump container - the fuel sump was greenish.

It was a big surprise to both of us. Sumped again and the fuel was normal blue. This has not repeated itself - but then I now store the sump container upside down in another room.

Any chance it could be something this simple? One can only hope.

Pat

I sump my tanks in 2 Gats jars that I keep in my baggage compartment so I can reuse the fuel on the road , they were clean, also big EPA fines in Florida if viewed dropping fuel on the ground. Could corrosion in the sump / strainer cause this? g

When I installec my tanks we used a tiny bit if carnauba turtle wax on the fuel nipple/ strainer that inserts into the fuel cell.
This made the first few samples a bit disclosed. Maybe ask your installer if they did something similar?

I called FFC and they use mineral oil to preserve the inside of the bladders. I did sump the aux today an the discoloration was about half of what it was the other day, seems to be getting better. George
