Twin Comanche wire bundles through wing tube

Postby Gomer Pound » Thu Aug 25, 2016 11:52 pm

I'm contemplating either Aerospace Logic instruments or EI instruments, which might also include the fuel senders. Some versions of the EI instruments, e.g., the CGR-30P and CGR-30C use a data computer which is usually located in the nacelle behind the engine in the twin variety. I understand only a twisted wire pair RS-232 serial high speed bus runs from the data computer to the instrument(s). To me this seems like a great advantage in terms of pulling wires through the tube.
Is it a problem to pull bundles of Aerospace Logic, Insight, or JPI wires through the tube due to the total diameters of the bundles?
Another factor for me is although Aerospace Logic instruments have ability to send real time information on an RS 232 bus, there does not seem to be any data logging instrument of their own design the instruments can send the information to, whereas the EI, JPI, and Insight instruments all have data logging (above the basic level instruments)

I don't think that there should be a problem as most of those have been installed in PA-30's at one time or another, but I don't have any experience specifically.

If you are removing any factory engine gauges you need to make sure that the replacement is certified as a primary replacement.

It can get very tight, but if you are removing items such as the tach cable etc then there will be plenty of room.
