Throttle Cable Friction Lock

I wonder if anyone knows how to either rebuild or buy a throttle cable friction lock for a 1964 model. The throttle is a simple push pull device. The friction lock is just a hand driven nut with some kind of compliant material that compresses around the throttle shaft/rod when tightened down. The material that does the compressing or grabbing appears to have worn out on mine.

Any ideas?

The material in question was originally leather and most likely that is what you have unless someone has been there before you. The fix is another piece of leather. OR buy a vernier cable as was installed in later aircraft.

Or go to your local hardware store and buy some of the packing material used around the stem of water valve handle shafts. A dollar will get you a lifetime supply

I had the same problem last summer. I called Webco and they sold me a $20 fix - a brass ferrule cut lengthwise that fits over the shaft and clamps as you tighten the nut. It's worked okay but there is very little difference between a loose throttle and a locked throttle.

It's been fine over the last year, but I'm going to pull the throttle this spring and have a new throttle cable and handle made by McFarlane and install that along with new Vernier mixture and prop controls. The prop cable gets a little sticky in the cold weather and they have all served the Comanche well for 52 years...
