Repatriating a Comanche from Canada question

I have bought my first Comanche. I am repatriating a '64 PA24-250 from Edmonton Ca. It has been in Canada for 12 years.

My question is: Are their any maintenance requirements in the U.S. that may not have been required in Canada? This aircraft had all the big things I was looking for....great autopilot, speed mods including cowl, and WAAS gps. Jumped pretty fast on it before considering the national differences..

Hi Steve,
Been years since I brought an aircraft back from Canada, but generally speaking - Canada has more mandatory maintenance rules than the US.
Example, props have a "years" inspection and overhaul life. Engines have to be overhauled at TBO, or be maintained on "Condition", whatever that means.
Also, if not mistaken, I believe "service bulletins", are mandatory compliance required in Canada.
You'll even get a "flight log".

The US will be strict on the aircrafts paperwork.

You shouldn't have too much trouble. If it was maintained by a AME/AMO organization the logs will be complete and it will be up to date.

Thanks for the replies. I have never bought an aircraft this way and am learning a lot. I have a DAR lined up. The market seems soft up in Canada, but there is a few thousand dollars and a bunch of paperwork involved in getting it back to an N number...

Please be warned that all of general aviation's paperwork in Canada is handled by a bored chain-smoking middle-aged woman named Sheila who is trapped in a windowless office in the basement of a cold building on the corner of Portage and Main in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Also, she has a casual indifferent hatred of pilots and aircraft owners. So the paperwork can take some time.

It isn't that bad, really. But you do need to follow up as they don't devote a lot of attention to it.

There are some good deals to be had. I've had my eye on that aircraft for a while and it is good to see it is getting a new home!
