Removing the control yokes

Postby James Turner » Mon Sep 17, 2012 9:49 pm

Hi All,

I am wanting to repaint the two little fibreglass covers that surround where the yoke enters into behind the panel... (the covers that cover the three small rollers...)

Is there an easy way to remove the yokes in order to access the cover or does the entire assembly (including the tube) have to be removed??

Many thanks,

James.

Big job just to paint.Easier way is to Loosen off the 3 little screws attaching the trim peice and slide it back on the tube. Tape the tube and everything around it and just spray paint it while it is loose on the tube.

Good luck,
Gary

Had to do mine and what I did was to slid them out a little to gain access. Then I used SEM plastic paint I extracted from a spray can into a small container. I used a very fine artist acrylic paint brush about half inch wide and 1/16 thin (yes they go for about $10 but they are worth it).

After 3-4 very light coats, I can say I had pretty good result. One point to care is the fact that this pain has lots of solvent into it (to adhere to the plastic, I suppose) so the next coat you will apply will dilute somewhat the one before. This is where the acrlic brush is handy, that it will not leave bristle marks. Don't do more than one pass on the wet paint. Wait a few minutes until it dries.

No point in removing the yokes IMHO.

Francois

That sounds like a much better way to do it. I'll give it a try.

Many thanks,

James.
