pitot heat

Postby JKW » Fri Feb 05, 2010 3:44 am

the pitot heat is not working on our pa24-250. in the annual , the mechanic mentioned it would be about $1K to fix with parts. does this sound right? is there a cheaper way to fix?

The AN 5812 heated pitot tube lists for $880. in the Spruce catalog.

Try the surplus yards, Wentworth, Dallas Air Salvage, etc.

Kristin might be right - we can change the heating element in the Cessna-type pitots, the parts are available. The heating elements for the Piper-type somehow were installed in the unit, so i imagine it must be possible to change them as well.
