Parts for stabilator

Postby Pierre Hulin » Fri Aug 23, 2013 9:28 pm

Hi

The stabilator of my aircraft (PA 24 260 C) has been stuck by a tug. The skin has been slightly bent and I look for the following parts number :

P/N 20193-22, SKIN- Stabilator top, left hand, Qté 1
P/N 20193-26, SKIN- Stabilator bottom, left hand, Qté 1
P/N 20193-24, STRIP - Stiffener, Qté 1

Does anyone know a supplier for these parts ?

Regards

Pierre,

I feel for you, and understand how you feel!

I had to change a wing panel recently because a Lear 35 came into my hangar uninvited, the panel was not available anywhere and it was custom made, there are a few places that do metal work and can do it for you.

Williams Airmotive is a very good place to start, if they can't help you, perhaps they can suggest somebody.

Hope it works out

Pierre,

I would check with Webco to ask if they can make you a set. I am betting that they can. Of course, you can easily make them out of aluminum just by cutting them out of a suitable piece of aluminum. The service manual gives you the alloy and thickness of the skins.

You will want someone with a bit of sheet metal experience to do the repair. It is not too difficult, but it needs a few sheet metal specific tools.

2nd the recommendation for Williams Airmotive. Last I checked there were 1 or 2 stabs on ebay as well.

We have a stabilator for a 1967 PA30. I don't have the part numbers for your model (our ours !), but they have always appeared to me to be similar. Might be worth checking, if no other options appeal to you.
