PA24-250 12Volt battery

Postby Adolfo Ortiz » Mon Dec 12, 2016 9:26 pm

It's come time to replace the battery in the Comanche.

The common brand is Gill.

Any recommendations on other brands over Gill?

Thanks

I have used Concord RG35ACX for over 12 years in multiple aircraft. Average lifespan in hot SW FL is around 6 years. I would not consider anything else.

We replace every Gill we come across with the Concorde maintenance free batteries.

Concorde batteries have better cold cranking amps and generally spin the prop faster. As to length of service I am not sure.

If you have not replaced the battery yet, you may need to modify the spacing of where the cables come through the side of the battery box. The Gill has different post spacing compared to a Concorde.

I replaced my Gill with a Concorde and absolutely love the Concorde. No longer have ANY battery acid migration out of the cells and have not had to even remove the battery for more than 5 yrs to clean and repaint the box. Testing a Concorde is equally easy as outlined on their website documents. If your plane sits for a very long time, an occasional top charge should be done using a high quality charger recommended by Concorde. In our case this has not been required for the entire time we have had the aircraft considering we fly it about 75-100 hours per year.

I had a gill. Starting was very slow... once I changed to Concorde I saw t the change instantly. I am sold on the Concorde from now on.
