I’m considering installing the LoPresti cowling mod for my 260B. They claim it adds 15-25mph to cruise speed. My Comanche already cruises at Vno with 55% power, so it seems that the additional speed will cause me to exceed Vno. If anyone has experience with the LoPresti cowling mod on their 260b, I’d be interested to know how it has impacted performance and whether there are any concerns about Vno/Vne. Thank you.

Did the cowling mod on my 250 with the hartzell 3 blade prop in 1999. Install the stabilator kit to bring the vne back to 223 mph. Have various other lopristi speed mods and cruise 200 mph at 10/11000 ft.at 65/70% power. Gained 1.5 inches manifold with the prop and now turn 2600 rpm. Couldn’t be happier. Possibly some of the speed gain comes from carrying less weight in the form of cash!

    Stanley,

Thanks for that info! Does LoPresti also sell the stabilator kit? I searched for the stabilator kit a few years ago and neither I nor my mechanic could find it.

Also, does the cowling mod include the 3-blade prop, or are those separate items?

    Thanks for your help!

    David,
Lopreti was reproducing the stabilator kit, that’s where I got mine. You could get the cowling kit with or without the prop. Just to clarify, the 200 mph was true airspeed. The best I seen was VNE at 500 ft MLS on a standard day, level flight.
