Generators will not come on line?
Can not get the generators on my PA30 on line. Flashed the field 5 times 3 to 5 seconds each as per the manual. ACFT has been sitting for 5 years. Have grounded the field wire to airframe and started engine and rpm to 1500 and still no power times two generators. No electrical work was done but can not get generators on line. Any one have this happen in the past?

Re: Generators will not come on line?
Just a couple thoughts.
Generator cut-in speed might be 1600rpm. Not unusual.
How do you know they don't come on line....trustiing an old ammeter of unknown accuracy?
Did you load up the system so they have a mission? I'm sure you put a fully charged battery in and there might not be a big charge needed.
Did you remove the generator control relay covers so you could see the contacts move,,,,or not? Clean the contacts?
Seems odd that two generators would fail. As I said, just a couple thoughts.

Re: Generators will not come on line?
Ya called Webco spoke to Bob Web he said same as you perrty much. Acft has been in active for about 5 years. In hangar but not heated and in very moist atmosphere in southeast Alaska. Will clean contact points and jump field circuit and run up with load above 1600 rpm. Got new dully charge gel cell battery 35 ampere/hour.
Thank you first time working on a pa30 but so far really like the machine

Took your advice. Filed points and both regulators and used electrical cleaner on regulator. Cleaned all contacts off with sand paper and polarized generators and now they work like advertised.

There ya go. She's a great little bird and fairly uncomplicated to maintain. Congrats.
