Flap Bushings

Postby George Kretschmann » Sun May 05, 2013 10:35 pm

Has anyone installed the new nylon flap bushings? The ourboard seem easy enough but how do you get to the inboards? I ask because my current stock rollers are wore out but the tracks look good and may not be worn to much therefore the upgrade to nylon may work without changing out the flap tracks.. George

George,

1/2 my flap tracks and most of the rollers and bushings were replaced this past Dec during the annual on my PA-30. I can't speak to the process / effort but the work was done by Cliff Wilewski and his team at Heritage Aero. You might email him or call and perhaps they can provide some pointers. Contact info online at www.heritageaero.com

George,
I replaced all mine in the 250 several years ago with nylon. Don't recall having much difficulty.

Still a call to Cliff for pointers would be good.

No, No, No, no grease! Same reason as on the gear conduits.

Silicone? Seems ok, but can't remember. Ask Cliff, Webco, or one of our other Guru's.

Ah yes, nylon rollers+yucky grease+cold weather=stuck flap ... happened on my multi checkride in Chicago on a practice go around - feels just like a lost engine. Ironic that 22G was 6 years old at the time and maintained by a Piper dealer/Distr. that should have known better but didn't.
