Paul,

I have a mix of Bose X and Bose A20 headsets which are ANR and I have no problem hearing my gear warning or stall warning. Maybe it's a matter of perception as to what is "loud enough"..

Hi Charles,

My bird is a 1959 Single180 a little bit noisy. You gave me a chance to inform those concerned;
I finally found it is possible to send a little part of the output signal from the horn to the female jack on the panel.
The horn is then heard both in the cockpit and headset. Just interleave a 2 or 3 Ohm resistor (10 watts) between the horn and the ground; Pick the audio signal between the horn and the resistor to the jack; if it's too loud in the headset, put a 1000 Ohm resistor. :D

Paul,

Which gear horn do you have? Your connection to the audio jack is very intriguing.

Hello Clarence,

I think my gear horn is an electro-mechanical piezo (=a piezo horn working with DC). So the output signal (between the horn and the ground) is modulated with the same audio frequency. The sound in the headset is exactly the same as in the cockpit.
At first I was thinking of installing a 12 VDC amplifier (powered to the throttle warning switch) with a microphone but it is no longer necessary.

I have a '66 260B - the landing gear and stall warning comes through fine with ANC headsets.

Paul,
I had the same concern about hearing the gear horn with ANC headsets. I added an Electronics International AV-17 Annunciator when I did my radio stack upgrade. It gives a verbal warning through your headset for up to 17 different inputs. Cost is $250 at Spruce. There are probably other annuciator solutions available, but this one works for me.

On our 180 I hear it no matter what kind of headset I'm wearing and hear it flying from either seat. So for this little engine guy I guess the noise level is so much lower with the power pulled back that it isn't an issue. Results may vary.... 8)

Absolutely hear mine (24-180) even though using Bose headsets. Some years back, mine was getting weak, so replaced it with a similar one that is an intermittent beep instead of a constant beep. My thought was that it would be more noticeable as a repetitive interruption/change to the continuous noise level.

hear it just fine if you cant hear it, suggust you replace it. Also, as they age they can go bad and short. found this out when my 1960 180 kept blowing the nav/panel light breaker in the pattern at night. FUN. Turns out the gear warning is in that circuit. They arn't expensive.
