Airtex Interiors?

Postby Steve Boyer » Mon Sep 19, 2016 6:12 am

My Comanche is here and I need to get right into installing a new interior. Has anyone had experience with Airtex for a Comanche interior? I was going to go with leather seats and vinyl for the sides...

I would love any other shop suggestions. I will be installing over the winter....goes to paint in Feb.

Thanks
Steve

Just finished installing Airtex carpet in my airplane. Quality of materials was very good. One problem was they did not cut and bind the opening for the emergency gear extension. Curiously, they sent a cut and bound piece for the emergency gear extension door. Because I didn't want to pay postage to return and wait again, I cut and bound the opening myself. Not ideal but it worked. But for the price I paid, I would've thought they could follow the pattern exactly.

Mike's Upholstery Shop at North Omaha Airport in Nebraska did my Comanche's interior in about 2006. Amazing leather work. New everything. Well worth the trip!!!

I used aviations creations. Look up the website. I was very impressed with the quality and would absolutely use them again.

Dodd at Airtec did my 260 about 10 years ago. Held up very well and still looks good. Pilot seat shows signs of wear but was told at the time he could always replace any panels that needed it. It still looks acceptable to me so I just use some leather cleaner a couple times a year. Rick

I'm putting in Airtex seat covers again. Originally did it in 1992 and I have to say, even new, they weren't as comfortable as I'd hoped, but they held up well. In 24 years, they've contoured the seats more and gone with a better foam. I also opted for fake leather instead of cloth. Very happy with the result. Picture shows before and after (still had to put in armrest in after). Had to work a little on the headrests. They never were facing forward enough for me.
