-30 heater usage

Postby Larry Martin » Mon Dec 05, 2016 2:30 am

I have a few cockpit control heat/ventilation cables not sliding as they should. In the mean time, how is the janitrol heater designed to be run in the winter for best heating? Looking at the schematic, I would think that on,y the side wall vents should be open. When I do that I get little airflow. If I open the air flow lever a bit, I get good heat/air flow through the sidewalls, but also get too much air escaping from the vents. As I mentioned, the cables to control the air may not be working correctly and I need to address that.
Wow, all that to say - how show I run the cabin climate control system for max heating?

Thanks,
larry

Air flow on, temp on high. Be careful what you put on the floor behind the front seats. Mine puts out enough heat down there to melt chocolate and warm up my water severely.

Thanks Kristen,

That is what I experienced, but I had excess air coming from the closed "airliner" fresh air vents. Is that normal, or do I meed to adjust/fix something there?

The eyeball vents in the front get their feed from the nose section. If the tubing is deteriorated, it will leak cold air under the panel. If the eyeball vent is bad, it will leak onto the pilot. The back vents get air from the dorsal fin. If those tubes are deteriorated they pressurize the headliner. Those eyeball vents can leak too. What year twin do you have?

Its a 66. The scat tubing under the pannel and nose looked good on a casual glance. I will inspect closely next time at the airplane. I seem to get excess air at the pilot side vent whet the vent meets the pannel. i will exami it all.

thanks again.

That juncture doesn't always seal well. You can remove the whole plenum by loosing or removing the plastic trim that comes down from the post. You will see that the opening just sits over the intake tube that comes through the panel, with no real sealing taking place. Duct putty or a hand-cut donut of 1/4" foam should provide the sealing. If the vents themselves are leaking, I have four of the better Wemac eyeball vents that are surplus to my needs.

Thanks Kristin,

I hope to get to the airplane tomorrow or Friday - no I can come armed. The eyeball does not leak, but the air seemed to come from the area that you described. The PO usually flew where no heat was required. I will be finding the cold spots, and remeding them, as it is winter here.
