Aileron AD's coming due, Looking for AMOC

Postby Ryan Spencer » Wed May 24, 2017 5:06 pm

Good afternoon all,
My Aileron AD's 79-20-10 for the rib and 77-08-01 for the spar are coming due. Getting my AP prepared do due these next week as we are only 20 hours away from due. We just bought this Twin in March and its our first Piper. We love it so far.

is there an AMOC or any info on this AD I can pass to my A&P? He is also an IA but has mostly worked on Aztec's the last 25 years for a aerial photo business. He has worked on Twin Comanches, but not enough to be familiar with all the AD's. He is wondering if he can borescope for the inspections instead of removing the skin. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Ryan

AD 77-08-01 has usually been terminated. If the part of the hinge that connects to the aileron is steel, then it has already been terminated. If it is aluminum it has not been terminated.

AD 79-20-10 often has not been terminated. That is the aileron nose ribs. You have to remove the ailerons to inspect, but you don't have to remove any skins to inspect. Installation of the terminating kit did call for skin removal, however, there is an AMOC for that to avoid removing the skin.

Ok, I will have my A&P inspect the hinge to see if it is Metal or Aluminum. Nothing in the logs about it, So i am guessing aluminum................................

I will have him remove the aileron and inspect the rib per the AD. I was worried about the skin but better see now you dont have to remove it. I have sent him a copy of it! Thanks for the info!
